Project Description
Working closely with author Maggie Myklebust, I brought her debut memoir, Fly Away Home, to life through thoughtful and engaging interior design. The aim was to create a book that feels warm, personal, and easy to read, one that carries the reader gently across continents in step with Maggie's own story.
Fly Away Home traces Maggie's journey between two homes, from her Norwegian-American childhood in New Jersey to the Nordic island of her ancestors, and back again. The design reflects that back-and-forth rhythm, with a layout that supports the memoir's honest, heartfelt tone and lets her story unfold with clarity and warmth from page to page.
It was a privilege to help shape the interior of such a personal book, one that speaks to identity, belonging, and the pull between two worlds. The result is a design that honours Maggie's voice and gives her debut the warm, inviting home it deserves.

Clean freak’ Maggie tries so hard to keep her life in order but is foiled at every turn. The descendent of second generation Norwegian immigrants to America, she grows up in New Jersey, spending her summer vacations on an idyllic island in Norway.
Later, in the wake of an abusive marriage, she and her three young children leave America and return to the Nordic Island of her ancestors, where she rekindles a relationship with her childhood sweetheart. Pulled between two worlds, her life continues as she seeks meaning, identity and happiness.
With her true love by her side and three more children to care for, Maggie discovers her traveling days are far from over. Life’s unexpected twists see her return to America before being catapulted to the Netherlands. At last she can begin to make sense of her experiences until, that is, she is on the move again. In the process she learns that life comes full circle, from the hopes and dreams of her forebears to the place where she can finally find peace and come to terms with her past.
Follow this Jersey girl as she flies back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean looking for love and a place to call home.
About the Author
Maggie was born and raised on the Jersey Shore. She is married to a Norwegian and they have lived as expats
in Houston and the Netherlands. She has raised five children and had a hand in raising one stepchild. She loves to read, scrapbook and walk her dogs. After attending a series of “Write your life stories” workshops in the Netherlands, she has written a memoir about the ups and downs in life and the back and forth travels of a multicultural family. She is now living with her husband in Norway.
